Are You Ready for the Holidays?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

As we enter into the busy holiday season, we start our lists and begin checking things off. Aside from the gifts to purchase and cards to write, we begin to think of the guests that will be arriving and if our homes are ready to accommodate them and the holidays.

If you have guest bathrooms that haven’t been utilized much, now is the time to check to see if the bathroom fixtures are operating correctly. In addition, is everything working adequately in the kitchen? Now is the time to take care of  those pesky kitchen and bathroom plumbing repairs before the festivities begin and the guests arrive.

We are offering December specials to help you with those repairs, so give us a call at 602-246-0656, and let us help you get ready for the holidays. Remember Qualtire Plumbing & Construction has been your Phoenix plumbing and remodeling company since 1964, and we are always just one phone call away.

Does Your Kitchen Need Updating?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

We’ve returned from San Diego, and it’s time to get back to work. Summer vacations are winding down, and the kids will soon be back in school. So we would like to turn our attention to kitchen remodeling. Does that kitchen of yours need a little updating? In these challenging economic times, we tend to let things slide for awhile. And then one day, we look around and think maybe, just maybe, we’re a little tired of that 70′s, 80′s or even 90′s look we have going on in that kitchen of ours. But what can we do within our budget constraints?

So we’ll take the next several weeks and address various aspects of a kitchen remodel. From cabinets and counter tops to flooring, plumbing fixtures, and appliances, we’ll discuss different ideas and ways to modernize that kitchen.

Qualtire Plumbing & Construction has been providing Phoenix and the greater valley quality plumbing and remodeling services since 1964. Kitchen and bathroom remodeling are our specialties, and we’ve seen myriad style changes through the years. One of the best ways to maintain your home value is to make sure your kitchen and bathrooms are updated and modernized periodically.

If anyone has any specific issues you would like us to discuss, by all means, please let us know. We’re always here to answer your questions and give you the best advice we can. You can call us at 602-246-0656 or email us at info@qualtire.com.

If you need to remodel for a handicapped bathroom or to make it elderly friendly, you may need to consider floor space, vanities, bathroom counter tops, cabinets, etc. and if they provide the necessary space and accessibility. Towel bars, for instance, may need to be lowered, and a comfort-height toilet may be preferable.

Grab bars are important and can be installed by the toilet, tub, and in the shower. A hand-held shower may replace your traditional shower head so that someone can use a chair or bench and still shower independently.

Floors should not be slippery, so vinyl and slick tile are not good choices. A tile with a matte finish or sanded texture is an option.

As you are probably aware by now, July is bathroom remodeling month at Qualtire Plumbing & Construction. If you would like a free evaluation of how to make that bathroom remodel handicapped or elderly friendly, just give us a call 602.246.0656. Hope you all have a good week.

Bathroom Remodeling

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Most of us have been impacted by the Great Recession in one way or another. I was contemplating the other day what things were like here in Arizona before the big real estate bubble and the subsequent crash. What was it like personally, and what was business like? I know that Dennis and I were homeowners, just as we are today, but we tended to think of our house as more of a home instead of a ”get rich” investment. In addition, since we we’re in the plumbing and remodeling business in Phoenix, we still had clients who remodeled and maintained their homes. During the bubble, however, remodels may have become a little more elaborate, especially with kitchen and bathroom remodels, since most of us thought our homes were worth more than they are today.

Home maintenance is ongoing, recession or not, and sometimes updating that kitchen or bath becomes necessary. So we would like to focus on bathroom remodeling this month and hopefully give you some helpful hints on how to update that bathroom with affordable options and ideas. Keeping our bathrooms updated and maintained will help make our homes more enjoyable and also facilitate maximizing home values in the event that we do need or want to sell.

Sometimes a “new look” for our bathrooms could be as easy as painting it a new color and adding new plumbing fixtures. With the variety of plumbing fixtures these days, it’s a great way to modernize that bathroom. For ideas, visit a home store, stop by our shop, or check out “Plumbing Services” on our website to be directed to Moen, Price Pfister, or other specific websites.

Anyway, we look forward to discussing bathroom remodels with you this month. If anyone has any questions or specific  topics you would like us to address, please let us know (info@qualtire.com). We love to hear from our customers at Qualtire Plumbing & Construction!

Drop Something Down the Sink?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I recently dropped one of my favorite earrings down the bathroom sink. Oh great!! Now being that my husband and I own a plumbing company here in Phoenix, I knew that I definitely did NOT want to run any water down the sink. Here are a few easy steps to follow if this happens to you.

As I said before, it’s important to not turn the faucet on. Place a bucket under the sink, and take the p-trap apart underneath the sink emptying the contents. Hopefully, you’ll find your lost earring or other misplaced item. If not, it is possible that it could have gotten caught in the pop-up assembly due to hair, etc. If you are really feeling handy, you can remove the plug from the pop-up assembly and visually inspect. If this doesn’t work, you may need to call a plumbing specialist to locate the missing item.

Hopefully, you found your item and are ready to reassemble the p-trap. Make sure the p-trap is in good condition or replace with a new one so it doesn’t leak. After you have successfully re-installed the p-trap, run an ample amount of water to make sure there are no leaks. I found my missing earring (with the help of my husband), and I hope you find your missing item also.

As your Phoenix plumbing company, we are always here to assist you with advice on those plumbing repairs or home maintenance issues. We also have professional service technicians to help you if necessary. We love to communicate with our customers, so please don’t hesitate to call, email, etc. with your questions. We have links to Facebook and Twitter on our Home page as well as information on our “Contact Us” page.

Water Discoloration

Posted by: | Comments (0)

If your water is suddenly discolored, don’t panic. It’s more than likely the City has been working on the water lines or testing fire hydrants in your neighborhood. It won’t hurt you, and the water should return to normal soon. If discoloration persists, then you might have additional problems which would need to be checked.

As your Phoenix plumbing company, we are always here to answer your questions. Don’t hesitate to call us with your plumbing and home maintenance concerns. Issues such as the water discoloration can occur and can be worrisome, and we are always just one phone call away.

Have a good week.

Sprinkler Systems

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Here in the Valley, we know the only showers we’ll be seeing for awhile will be coming from our sprinkler systems. Is yours ready for the long, hot summer?

Do you have leaks that are wasting valuable water and money? It’s a great time to have sprinkling systems checked and repaired. Don’t forget other costly plumbing leaks like toilets, faucets, and outside valves. Make getting them repaired/replaced part of your spring cleaning and sprucing up.

Qualtire Plumbing and Construction is offering a complete inspection of your sprinkling system for $59.00 through the month of May. Take advantage of this offer, and save money on that summer water bill.

Memories

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about my late father-in-law, Guy J. Qualtire. He started in the Phoenix plumbing repair business back in the late 50′s, early 60′s and opened Qualtire Plumbing in 1964. He loved the plumbing service and supply business and loved to chat with customers.

As I’ve been reminiscing, I’ve wondered what he would think of the company today. I hope he would be proud. He was such a believer in providing quality plumbing service and taking the time to build a rapport with his customers, and we have worked hard to maintain the integrity and quality that he found so important.

So as I write this today, I also wonder what Guy would have thought of blogging. I really think he would have loved being able to carry on a continuous dialogue with his friends and clients. Thanks, Guy, for the memories, and for the opportunity to continue to provide our clients with quality plumbing services and repairs.

The newest addition to our office staff is Debbie Peron. She has been with us for a few months now and is our secretary/receptionist. She has been a welcome addition to Qualtire Plumbing & Construction, and we’re thrilled to have her. She is married and has two daughters. I snapped a picture of her the other day at her desk. She is always smiling as you can see.

Debbie hard at work.
